Psychological Therapies

I specialise in the unique approach known as Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). ISTDP is a therapy model supported by neuroscience and findings of the innate healing capacities of the human brain. Having originated in Canada in the 1970's, it is scientifically proven, with over 60 clinical trials worldwide. It strives to attain permanent character transformation in shorter time periods by using intense and focused therapeutic techniques. Positive effects of this short-term therapy have been noted long after completion. Emotional experiencing and defence work, which are part and parcel of the approach, have been related to rapid improvements in clients' symptoms. My additional training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) allows me to use a wide variety of techniques to suit your needs best.


ISTDP affects change in minimal time and with minimal cost, so is recognised as a viable treatment option for a broad spectrum of clients. While many therapists expect to spend years working with clients, I typically see significant results with clients after 6-40 sessions.

People who come to work in therapy with me have often been emotionally stuck for some time. Even though they succeed in other areas of their lives, there is something holding them back. Despite all their striving to be where they want to be in the world, they feel disconnected from their inner self and the people they love, unable to enjoy even the most intimate and important relationships in their lives. They are so self-critical and unable to look at themselves with caring, loving and compassionate eyes that they deprive themselves of living the life they long for. They may have learnt to put a mask on, letting others believe that they are this perfect self. Yet, deep down, they are running on empty, exhausted and burned out, pushing their own needs away.

My approach

In therapy I will invite you to pay particular attention to your deepest feelings and thoughts, so that you open up to the possibility of closeness and intimacy with self and others. Ultimately, I will be guided by what you want to achieve and work on. For this to happen, there will be times when I notice and point out your self-defeating strategies (defences) which limit your growth and development in order to help you relinquish them. Your true feelings can then break through the defensive barrier, allowing for healing to begin, for your experience of competence and assertiveness for a lasting and deep change in your life. It is not uncommon for clients who have undergone ISTDP therapy to report a more authentic self and restored energy.
